Robert W. Wien, BA, MBA, JD, is a seasoned investment banker with more than three decades of experience as a senior advisor to companies, managers and owners. He has deep working and personal relationships in the business, financial and legal communities internationally, and has initiated and successfully completed hundreds of transactions and advisory engagements involving public and private companies across a broad array of industries, including construction and building products, real estate, energy and alternative energy, manufacturing, retail and consumer products, healthcare and biosciences and technology. Consistent with the founding philosophy of Mid-Market Securities, Mr. Wien brings large firm expertise and domestic and international processing capabilities to the middle market.

Mr. Wien is an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School where he teaches "Private Capital Markets: Valuation, Capitalization and Transfer of Private Business Interests."

Mr. Wien began his investment-banking career with Dean Witter Reynolds Inc., after practicing law with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, LLP. At Dean Witter he was Regional Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for the Southwest region for ten years and co-founder of the Restructuring Group. He was a Director in the Corporate Finance and the Real Estate Groups at Coopers & Lybrand, LLP and thereafter joined Josephthal & Co., Inc. where he was a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions and then Director of Investment Banking. Immediately prior to the formation and the registration of Mid-Market Securities as a FINRA registered broker dealer, he was EVP, Head of Investment Banking at vFinance Investments, Inc. Prior to joining Skadden Arps, Mr. Wien was a Staff Attorney for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and a law clerk to Hon. Vincent L. Broderick, United States District Court, Southern District of New York.

DR. JOSEPH D. BEN-DAK
Of Counsel: Strategy, International Technology


Dr Joseph D. Ben-Dak has more than thirty years of experience as a consultant, financial and strategic counselor and advisor, to Governments, Banks, Public and Private Companies, Not-for-Profits and senior executives, managers and policy makers around the world.

Dr. Ben-Dak’s current client list includes Italian, Japanese and Korean groups organizing intelligence systems to guide leadership in global security policy contexts. He has helped define opportunities that include original systems of unobtrusive intervention in product development, measurement of community innovation and undersea resource harvesting.

Dr. Ben-Dak recently completed work as Chairman of a Washington, DC task force evaluating government investments in critical technologies. He has developed computer solutions and support systems for DOD and HSD. He has accomplished similar tasks in programs for higher education, language proficiency and health delivery needs.

Serving the United Nations as the Principal Advisor, Science and Technology and Public Management, to the UN Secretary General, and the founder and Chief of the United Nations Global Technology Group, Dr. Ben-Dak has initiated and established successful technology and science businesses in numerous countries including most of OECD, Israel, Africa, China, Russia and the Arab World. He has had extensive administrative and academic licensing experience in institutions including Professorships at Haifa, Israel and Sao Paulo Universities, Visiting Senior Scholar, Papua New Guinea’s Institute for National Planning, and Visiting Professor at Seoul National University and Kyung Hee University. He was instrumental in the original programming of Korea's KAIST/KIST, and the earliest introduction of formative evaluation to Japan's MITI (now METI) and similar major Asian Institutions.

Dr Ben-Dak served as the Academic Director, Israel's Air Force School for Senior Officers. This program pioneered top personnel multitasking training of technology and management including preparation of first time ever curricula.

He was elected fellow of AAAS in Mathematics and Economics and won the US National Academy of Science Dissertation Award for Peace Studies and Sociology. Dr. Ben-Dak is a graduate of Hebrew University, Jerusalem in Sociology and Middle Eastern Studies. He also has Masters Degrees and PhD's in Methodology and Organizational Sociology and in the Program of Research on Conflict Resolution, all from the University of Michigan. He has done post-doctoral work in the Social Impact of Science Policy at Lund University, Sweden and Conflict Resolution at Oslo University, Norway and, in 1994, along with the President of Mongolia, jointly received the first honorary doctorates from the Technical University of Mongolia.

BRADFORD C. BURKETT
Senior Managing Director

Mr. Burkett has more than 20 years of financial advisory, transactional and operating experience, primarily in the healthcare industry.   He is a recognized expert in healthcare finance, having consummated over 50 transactions in the space, including acquisitions, mergers, leases, public and private equity and debt financings as well as sale – leasebacks. 

Until 2009, Mr. Burkett was Head of Healthcare Investment Banking at Navigant Capital Advisors. Prior to joining Navigant, Mr. Burkett was the CEO of two healthcare companies in the healthcare services and technology sectors,  deNovis and Physician Weblink. Mr. Burkett also served as Senior Vice President Corporate Development at The Multicare Companies, a very successful long-term care owner operator which he helped grow from 34 to over 175 facilities in 10 states until its sale for $1.2 billion to Genesis Health Ventures. Mr. Burkett has also been Co-CEO of CareMatrix and a member of the Board of several companies including Prodigy Health Group.

Prior to assuming operating roles, Brad began his career and spent nearly a decade with the international law firm Kaye Scholer LLP in New York.  Mr. Burkett holds a JD from Rutgers School of Law and a BA from Rutgers College.  He is a member of the Bars of the States of New York and New Jersey.

J.D. FRIEDLAND
Senior Managing Director

JD Friedland brings more than 15 years of experience initiating, structuring, negotiating and financing transactions and advisory engagements for public and private Healthcare companies in the U.S. and internationally.  The breadth of his clients includes the full panoply from medical devices, pharmaceuticals (OTC and prescription), healthcare services and distribution, from startups to mature companies.  His client list includes such prominent firms as Abbott Laboratories, Aetna, Fresenius and Pfizer.  Prior to joining Mid-Market Securities, Mr. Friedland founded Epsilon Securities where he continues to serve as CEO.  Previously, he was head of U.S. Healthcare for Rothschild Inc.  He has also held senior positions in the Healthcare Groups at Lazard Frčres, Wasserstein Perella (later Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein) and Cowen & Company.

BARRY GOLDBERG
Senior Managing Director

Barry Goldberg embarked upon his career specializing in commercial banking and the credit markets as a Banking Examiner for the State of Connecticut Department of Banking and as a credit risk professional with oversight responsibility for commercial lending activities at institutions including Fleet Bank, Barnett Bank, Chemical Bank, Sun American Bank (now First-Citizens Bank) and Orion Bank (now IBERIABANK).  He couples those skill sets with significant workout experience with troubled companies and distressed portfolios on both the buy and sell-side, as an agent as well as a principal.    

Mr. Goldberg’s international experience includes ownership, operations and investment banking for companies in Central and South America, including Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic, and in Israel.  His industry expertise includes commercial real estate (including financing, development and problem asset resolution), commercial banking, technology, healthcare, waste management and alternative energy.  Mr. Goldberg represents clients in the renegotiation and settlement of distressed debt as well as representing banks and investment funds.  He works with small to middle-market private and public companies in raising debt and equity capital and providing Mergers & Acquisitions advisory services.    

Mr. Goldberg’s previous work includes positions as Senior Vice President/Market Executive of Orion Bank (now IBERIABANK) for the Southeast Coast of Florida from 2007 to 2009 where he managed a $200 million commercial loan portfolio and also was responsible for work out and litigation situations comprising assets in excess of $250 million. In 2002, Mr. Goldberg joined the management and investor group implementing the acquisition and merger of two community banks and subsequent acquisition of three additional banks that comprised Sun American Bank (now First-Citizens Bank).   From 2002 through 2007 Mr. Goldberg held the position of Senior Vice President and Regional Banking Executive and was responsible for managing the bank’s commercial lending activities for Broward and Palm Beach counties, growing the commercial loan portfolio by more than $200 million and opening new branch offices for the company.    

In 1997 Mr. Goldberg founded Banyan Capital Markets, LLC, an NASD member investment and merchant banking boutique serving private and public companies in the middle market.  Mr. Goldberg served as Managing Director of Corporate Finance of National Financial Companies, an affiliated private merchant banking firm, providing financial consulting services to individuals and corporate clients regarding debt and equity placements, mergers and acquisitions, asset allocation, alternative investments, investment manager selection, wealth management, and business succession planning.

DOROTHY PRICE HILL
Senior Managing Director

Dorothy Price Hill has more than 18 years of experience in global financial services including investment banking, risk management and private placement advisory.  Her global practice includes publicly-listed and privately held companies within the financial, alternative investment, alternative energy, and technology sectors.  

 Ms Hill was a consultant with McKinsey & Co in Europe within the Financial Services practice following business school.  She then joined Goldman Sachs International where she spent nearly seven years in risk management and global client financing for Debt Capital Markets and Private Wealth Management. This included assignments in Tokyo, London and Frankfurt. Her work experience includes the Council on Foreign Relations and Siemens Corporation within Investor Relations as well as Finance. More recently, she has served on the Investment Committees of Zug, Switzerland-based Capital Dynamics and SV Investment Partners, a middle-market private equity fund.  

Ms Hill has been a member of the fundraising committees of Hedge Funds Care since 2003 and Mt. Sinai Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) since 2002. She
served as a NYC Chapter Co-Head of 85 Broads from 2002  through 2009, helping to build the Goldman Sachs alumnae network to more than 21,000 members globally.

ROGER McDANIEL
Senior Managing Director


Roger McDaniel has more than twenty years of financing experience, primarily in energy finance and project finance. He specializes in strategic and financial advice to energy and other companies, with specific focuses on the acquisition and divestiture of assets and on raising both equity and debt capital for companies and projects in various stages of development. He brings his experience as a consultant to the US Department of Energy's Loan Guarantee Program Office, a senior project finance lender and advisor with WestLB, and a utility M&A and project finance advisor with New Harbor, after having begun his Wall Street career as an attorney with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, specializing in financings.

Mr. McDaniel has advised clients on financings using venture capital, private equity, private and public debt, tax-exempt bonds, leveraged leasing, limited partnerships, public stock offerings, interest rate hedging and gold loans, as well as asset and corporate M&A transactions. His clients have come from a number of industries, including ethanol, environmental resource recovery, regulated and unregulated power, transportation, water and wastewater infrastructure privatization, waste-to-energy, metals and mining, oil and gas, telecommunications, and space. Financings have ranged from a $10 million venture capital financing to a $1.4 billion independent power project financing.

BRAD JOSEPH MONTERIO
Senior Managing Director

Brad J. Monterio brings more than 20 years of experience advising companies and their senior management and owners on global business and strategic development, including capital introductions and fundraising, management consulting, marketing, branding, communications and investor/media relations.  He has niche expertise in financial services and financial technology sectors, including XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) technology; CleanTech and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)/Responsible Investing sectors; accounting services (i.e., companies that provide tax, audit, investment advisory, business valuation, forensic services) and accounting technologies. He has counseled US and international financial services companies, corporations, private equity/hedge funds, professional services firms and technology consortia, as well as professional associations, standard setting bodies, regulatory bodies and credentialing organizations that serve these same sectors. JULIE CHRISTIENNE MURACO
Senior Managing Director

Julie Christienne Muraco is a seasoned resource of first resort for public and private companies and fund groups seeking access to global capital sources as well as business operational insights and expertise in strategic planning, sales & marketing and corporate communications. 

Prior to joining Mid-Market Securities, Ms. Muraco founded Praeditis Group LLC, a capital markets and corporate advisory firm, where she continues to serve as Managing Partner.  Previously, she was a Senior Managing Director and Head of Global Capital Markets for The NASDAQ OMX Stock Market.  She was responsible for strategy and client relations with corporate advisors, such as investment banks and financial sponsors, transitioning private companies to the public markets and built an international network. 

Ms. Muraco spent more than 20 years on Wall Street as a Vice President with J.P. Morgan’s Cash Markets Division, based in New York, and as a Managing Director in the Capital Markets Division of Smith Barney, based in Chicago and earlier in Cleveland.  She has extensive experience with institutional investment firms and advisors throughout the U.S., Canada and Asia, and has been involved with public company investments since 1980.

Ms. Muraco spent two years as Vice President, Investor Relations, for Archstone-Smith, a publicly traded REIT specializing in luxury high-rise apartments. 

She serves on the Board of Directors of Americans for the Arts, Washington, D.C., the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing participation in the arts and is an Advisory Board Member of Genisys Group, a privately held company based in London, England.   She is on the National Advisory Council of Springboard Enterprises, a venture catalyst firm for women owned businesses.  She is also a member of the Urban Land Institute, New York Chapter.

SHERYL WUDUNN
Senior Managing Director

Sheryl WuDunn brings a unique blend of investment advisory and project management skills, personal relationships around the world, and various industry knowledge to private companies seeking access to new capital or financial advisory services.  She has particular expertise in mainstream and new media, with experience in financial services, energy and alternative energies, business restructuring and strategy development for small businesses.  She has managed economic and financial coverage in China and East Asia, where she lived as a correspondent for The New York Times.  

Previously, she worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where she was a vice president, in the role of investment advisor for private clients, in the firm's investment management division.  She also worked as a commercial loan officer at Bankers Trust.    

Her background includes several roles as both an executive and journalist at The New York Times, where she developed a deep and broad network of contacts across a wide range of industries.  She ran the Times' coverage of international markets, energy, global technology and industry;  she helped develop long and short-form news documentaries for The Times' digital cable TV channel; she held management roles in strategic planning and circulation at The Times; as a foreign correspondent for The Times in Tokyo and Beijing, she wrote about economics and finance, as well as political issues.   

Ms. WuDunn was the first Asian-American to win a Pulitzer Prize in reporting, is a best-selling author, business executive and lecturer, and has strong ties to the philanthropic community.  She recently co-authored Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, a New York Times best-selling book, featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Colbert Report, Dateline NBC and many other network television shows.   
 
With her husband, Nicholas D. Kristof, she has co-authored two other best-selling books about Asia: Thunder from the East and China Wakes.  Ms. WuDunn won a Pulitzer Prize with her husband for covering China, along with the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Lifetime Achievement.  She has also won other journalism prizes, including the George Polk Award and Overseas Press Club awards.    
 
She graduated from Cornell University, where she is a member of the Board of Trustees, and is a member of the Board’s Finance Committee. She is a former member of the University's nine-member investment committee overseeing a $4 billion endowment.  She earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an M.P.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.

CHRISTOPHER D. WESTGATE
Managing Director

Christopher D. Westgate, MBA, CBI, brings discipline, temperament and focus honed from more than eighteen years in Aviation, as an Aviation Officer, Captain and Pilot of Boeing 727’s, 737’s, 757’s and 767’s, Director of Operations, Director of Training and Aviation Finance Consultant. 

Mr. Westgate couples formal academic training from a top MBA program with extensive experience as a Certified Business Intermediary advising small and mid-sized companies and their owners across a wide array of industries including but not limited to Aviation, Real Estate, Construction, Retail, Food Service, National and International Governments, Manufacturing, Consumer products and the Biological Sciences.  He has significant experience with valuations, SBA and private sector financing, succession and strategic planning and buy-side and sell-side advisory.  In addition Mr. Westgate has been a founder and participant in several startup businesses.

Prior to joining Mid-Market Securities, Mr. Westgate founded Westgate Group, LLC located in Miami Florida, a lower middle market mergers & acquisitions and commercial real estate practice where he continues to serve as CEO and President.  

Mr. Westgate is a former US Navy Officer and Enlisted service member.  He spent seven years in the U.S. Navy and served during the Gulf War.  Mr. Westgate is fluent in Spanish and has extensive business and consulting experience in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Aamir Mumtaz
Senior Consultant

Aamir Mumtaz brings international experience and relationships to Governmental and Private Sector Information Technology clients.  He is an entrepreneur, owner and builder of businesses, investor, consultant and advisor to public and private companies and their owners.

Mr. Mumtaz is a Certified Project Manager (CMP) by the Project Management Institute (“PMI”) (www.pmi.org), the dominant not-for-profit association for the project management profession.  PMI is an international organization with more than half a million members and credential holders in over 170 countries.  He has extensive experience in the field of Management, Business, Consulting and Information Technology.  Beginning his career in the United Kingdom as a Systems Engineer with Electronic Data Systems he later worked for British Telecom, CGU/Aviva Plc and Lloyds of London holding a range of Technology, Management and Executive positions.  Having formed three start-up companies during the last fifteen years, he is well versed in the process of leading and growing businesses.  In 1996, Mr. Mumtaz launched a consulting services company Softex Systems, Ltd., where he formed partner relationships and achieved certified partner status with many leading software vendors.  As the owner of Tax Service Franchises operating in New York City and Florida, he started and managed two operations with 125 staff and 30 separate service locations.  Previously he had founded Next Education Limited, a provider of online training delivering learn-direct programs on behalf of the UK Department of Education and Skills. 

With broad sector experience covering Financial Services (including Insurance and Reinsurance), Telecommunications, Technology, Consulting, Public Sector, Manufacturing, Education and Criminal Justice, Mr. Mumtaz is well diversified.  His operating experience is at senior levels - VP Operations, CIO, and Board Member and his functional focus is Organizational Development, General Management, Operations, Strategic Planning, Software Development, Vendor Management and Project Management.  His international perspective and connections are drawn from in depth on the ground work with companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and more recently the U.S.

Mr. Mumtaz is a member of various Angel Networks in New York and Connecticut.  His area of work includes analysis and evaluation of businesses to determine their viability as investments, the formulation of business strategy, and the implementation of operational improvements and restructuring initiatives.  He also volunteers for the Project Management Institute to develop intellectual property and examination questions for their world wide credentials.
